NMHC OPTECH 2017: 4 Must-See Sessions Oct 18, 2017 Rentlytics Co-Founder and CEO, Justin Alanis, takes a few moments to share his thoughts on what he’s most excited for at NMHC OPTECH 2017. It’s that time of year again: NMHC OPTECH 2017 is just around the corner. The conference takes place from Oct. 25 to 27 in Las Vegas, where I’ll be joining industry leaders to discuss and explore the future of the multifamily industry. While each session is bound to provide valuable insights, these are the four I’m most looking forward to. 1. Collaborative Rebranding Strategies for Value-Adds (Thursday, Oct. 26 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.) Dave Egeland, Vice President, Head of Marketing, Laramar Group Tim Hermeling, Executive Vice President, Marketing, Cortland Partners Brendt Rusten, Partner and Senior Vice President, Asset Management, Dominium During a value-add repositioning, it’s crucial that your new amenities, branding and services be proactive rather than reactive. In other words, you need to add amenities and implement marketing campaigns before your competition does, not after. At this session, you’ll learn how to take a more proactive and comprehensive approach to value-adds. Given the launch of our newest product, Renovation Manager, which helps owners and managers plan, execute and analyze their value-add projects, I’m looking forward to hearing about other ways that organizations can get the most out of these projects. 2. The KPI Revolution: Using Advanced BI to Move Beyond the Occupancy Variable for NOI Gains (Thursday, Oct. 26 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.) Laurie Lyons, Executive Vice President, US Residential Group Sherry Freitas, Managing Director, Real Estate Strategy Services, Greystar Tim Reardon, Director of Revenue Management, Bridge Property Management Many multifamily organizations are already using key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure their progress and success. However, relying on only traditional KPIs can distract us from the bigger picture. Modern business intelligence technology has opened the door to several advanced metrics, and they’re radically changing the landscape of the multifamily industry. This is shaping up to be a great session. You’ll learn how to navigate, plan and implement the key initiatives you need to boost NOI from experts like Rentlytics customer, Laurie Lyons, from USRG. Unfortunately, this is at the same time as the Collaborative Rebranding Strategies session above, so you’ll need to pick the one that’s most applicable to your organization. I know it’ll be a difficult choice for me! 3. B2B Short Term Rentals: When, How and Where Can They Work for You? (Friday, Oct. 27 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.) Kim Bender, Executive Vice President, Operations, Fairfield Residential Sean Conway, CEO, Pillow Residential Joe Fraiman, Co-Founder, President and COO, Parallel Jason Fudin, CEO, WhyHotel Erik Eccles, CEO, Urbandoor There’s no denying that the short-term rental marketplace has dramatically altered the way that multifamily companies operate. As a result, a new generation of short-term rental companies has emerged. Here, you’ll hear from several industry leaders in this space as they discuss their business models, lease structures, regulatory developments, safety and security procedures and more. This session will be a good opportunity to find out how you can improve occupancy and other key metrics with short-term rentals, as well as to hear about the impact this emerging marketplace is having on the multifamily industry. 4. Why Most Companies Miss Over $100k in ROI from Renovations (Thursday, Oct 26th 5:45 – 6:00 p.m.) Justin Alanis, Co-Founder and CEO, Rentlytics At this session, I’ll explain how multifamily owners and managers can use Rentlytics’ new solution, Renovation Manager, to drive more ROI and make smarter business decisions. Renovation projects are a common way to increase the ROI of a property acquisition. While multifamily companies invest millions of dollars in their renovations, many still use inaccurate spreadsheets to manage them. Without on-demand status updates, intuitive collaboration tools, connected workflows and accurate data housed in a centralized system, an extraordinary amount of ROI goes to waste. I hope that this has helped you decide which sessions you’ll be attending at this year’s conference. Make sure you stop by and say hi to the Rentlytics team at Booth #407!
